Accessible innovation for the prevention of domestic poisoning

In response to the health risks present in precarious and poorly ventilated housing, the Kuenca team developed a low-cost carbon monoxide sensor, designed for local manufacture and community distribution. Using microcontrollers such as the ESP32 and electrochemical sensors calibrated for real-time detection, the device sends alerts via LoRa or Wi-Fi to cell phones or neighborhood monitoring centers. Its design considers energy autonomy, ease of installation, and robustness criteria. The initiative is part of a prevention and public health strategy that articulates technical knowledge, housing rights, and neighborhood participation.
